OpenPlant Modeler Help

BuiltUp Section Editor

Used to create a section that is an aggregation of other available sections by specifying offsets and rotations of components, and then and add it to the project.

Accessed from:
  • Ribbon: Structural > Sections > Create BuiltUp Section
SettingDescription
Toolbar Located at the top of the dialog, the toolbar, from left to right, contains tool icons used to:
  • Add Component - Adds another component to the components sections table.
  • Duplicate Component - Copies the selected component section.
  • Delete Component - Deletes the selected component section.
  • Clear All Components - Clears the component sections table so you can start over.
Name Used to enter a unique name for the varying section. If an existing, available built up section name is used, the tool changes to edit mode (Add button changes to Update).
Section Type Opens a combo box containing available section types. Selecting a type populates the Name cell with available sections of the selected type.
(Section) Name Opens a combo box containing available sections of the selected type.
Mirror Y Flips the selected component section about the X axis through its placement point.
Placement Point Opens a combo box containing available placement points. Selections made here change the position of the selected component section relative to its placement point.
Offset (X,Y) Used to enter X and Y direction offsets. The X and Y values must be separated by a comma. Negative X values offset to the left, and positive Y values offset down. Entering values changes the position of the selected component section relative to its placement point.
Rotation Used to enter rotation values in degrees. The selected component section rotates about its placement point. Negative values rotate counter clockwise.
Add | Update When the tool is in "create" mode (having a unique Name), clicking ADD adds the built up section to the Available Sections tree.

When the tool is in "modify" mode (using an exiting, available name or by selecting a built up section from the Available Sections tree), clicking Update updates the selected built up section.

Preview Displays a 3D preview of the active section definition including it's placement point and member line. You can change the view rotation and the rendering mode using the drop down toolbars in the top left corner of the preview panel.
Tip: If you do not see the member line (yellow by default), try changing the display to wireframe.
Available Sections Lists sections defined in the project dgnlib or active dgn by category. A right click menu provides options to Delete or Rename selected sections.
Note: A section may be deleted only if it is not referenced by another object in the model. Sections are checked both for references by IsmCurveMembers as well as references from "compound" sections such as a varying sections or built up sections. If a section has references, Delete is disabled. Renaming is permitted even if a section is in use since the name is a cosmetic property. The relationships are based on the EC instances so the name is not used.
